Teach better, one workshop at a time

Do you wish you had a treasure chest of teaching secrets to make class planning easier? You know how to dance, but figuring out how to help others improve is a struggle. This person is a natural, that person has never danced before, and there are others in between, too. You want to help them all learn to love dancing, but how can you help them get there before they get frustrated and give up?

In the dance teaching world there are a lot of training programs out there that teach you WHAT to teach, but few teach you HOW to teach - and that’s what’s missing. You could be a world champion performer who knows all the technicalities of your dance style, but if you don’t know how to reach a variety of learners, your lessons will fall flat and will leave both you and the learners frustrated.

As a licensed Spanish teacher since 2009, I would get frustrated in dance classes that lacked any systematic methodology to their teaching. Teaching new patterns every week wasn’t making me a better dancer. For years, no one wanted to listen to my ideas about how dance classes could be done better. But in 2021 when I finally started teaching Bachata, I proved myself right when I discovered teaching people to social dance is very similar to teaching a language. My students were excited, motivated, and impressed at how their thinking around dance learning changed just from taking an 8-week class. Now, people are coming to me to pick my brain on how they could teach better, too.

Imagine if you could go back to college to study education so you could better understand the things school teachers know – how people learn and remember information, how to build a curriculum, even just knowing the components of a good lesson. That would be great, right?

thanks to this masterclass series, you don’t have to do that. you can have what you want — without the years of taking classes, studying, tests, papers, and student teaching.

Introducing….

The Psychology of Learning: teacher Training masterclasses for Dance Teachers

Yes, I’ve re-worked my successful 13-week course into a series of masterclasses to be more accessible and more digestible to you. This new series is meant to fit into your life in a manageable, yet impactful way.

In the classes I’ve planned, you’ll learn…

  • the principles of psychology teachers use to understand how learning happens

  • to see social dance as a language, & what that means for teaching

  • strategies to increase engagement in your classes

  • how to create strong learning sequences

  • how to make sure all students are progressing once teaching is underway

What you’ll get when you enroll in any of these masterclasses:

  • Live, interactive instruction via Zoom classes (workshop lengths may vary depending on the topic)

  • Workbook companions to help you remember key details and jot down all your new ideas

  • Tools, activities, & lesson ideas to help you have a strong start

  • Limited time video replays to ensure you take action now

But what do dancers in my classes say about the effect of my teaching?

“I really like the vibe of your class. I took some other classes before and they felt harder. I don’t mean what they taught was harder, but how they taught was.” -NN

“I can’t tell you how glad I am that I came to your class. I love your approach to teaching Bachata. I took a different class before but all they did was teach a routine. I’m loving this already!” -DB

“You do such a good job of targeting all learning styles and I appreciate that!” -TB

“I feel that my Bachata abilities have tripled in the past few weeks.” -JC

“I am still so grateful for your classes. I learned more in those 2 courses than I did anywhere else”. -AB

“You’re a great teacher and even your follow ups are so good!!! Your Spanish students are probably the best in the west because of your teaching style. Little things like that image you put…make things click just that much more.” JW

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q: I’m not a teacher yet, but I’m getting ready to teach soon. Can I still take this class?

A: Yes! You will have to answer questions based on your ideas instead of your experiences, but you will still get a lot out of these trainings and they will set you up for success. Keep an eye out for the curriculum building workshop because it will help you finally get out there!

Q: I’ve been teaching dance for 15 years. Do you think you can teach me something new?

A: You’d be surprised! This course might validate some ideas you have formed about how people learn, and it also likely will give you new ideas that will inspire fresh, engaging lessons for your future offerings. Also, now that this course has been broken up into workshops, you can take the pieces you feel fit your needs.
